Raj B Shetty, the lead actor and writer of the Toby has revealed that Rishab Shetty his team are working on the script of the sequel of Kanatara, Kantara 2, in Mangalore. The film, which is expected to go on floors next year, will have a budget of 100 crores, which is ten times bigger than the budget of the first part.
Kantara, which released in September 2022, was a huge commercial and critical success. The film, which was produced by Vijay Kiragandur under Hombale Films, grossed over 400 crores worldwide and became the second highest-grossing Kannada film of all time after K.G.F: Chapter 2. The film also won six awards at the 69th Filmfare Awards South, including Best Film, Best Director and Best Actor for Rishab Shetty.
The film tells the story of Shiva, a Kambala champion from a coastal village, who is at loggerheads with Murali, an upright forest officer. The film explores the themes of spirituality, fate and folklore in the backdrop of a mystical forest. The film also features Kishore Kumar G., Achyuth Kumar, Sapthami Gowda and Pramod Shetty in pivotal roles.
According to reports, Rishab Shetty will reprise his role as Shiva in Kantara 2 and that most of the cast and crew from Kantara will return for the sequel. He said that he is looking forward to working with them again and creating magic on screen.
Kantara 2 is expected to release in late 2024 or early 2025. The film will be distributed by KRG Studios2, which also distributed Kantara. The film will be available for streaming on Netflix3 after its theatrical release.
