Disney Plus has finally revealed the first look and trailer of its highly anticipated original series, Percy Jackson and the Olympians, based on the best-selling novels by Rick Riordan. The series will debut on the streaming platform on December 20, 2023, with a two-episode premiere.
The series follows the adventures of Percy Jackson, a 12-year-old boy who discovers that he is a demigod, the son of Poseidon, the Greek god of the sea. Along with his friends Annabeth Chase, a daughter of Athena, and Grover Underwood, a satyr, he embarks on a quest to find Zeus’ lightning bolt and prevent a war among the gods.
The series stars Logan Lerman as Percy Jackson, Alexandra Daddario as Annabeth Chase, Brandon T. Jackson as Grover Underwood, Sean Bean as Zeus, Pierce Brosnan as Chiron, Uma Thurman as Medusa, Rosario Dawson as Persephone, and Steve Coogan as Hades.
The series is produced by Rick Riordan and his wife Becky Riordan, along with Chris Columbus, who directed the first two films based on the books. The series will consist of five seasons, each adapting one of the five books in the original series: The Lightning Thief, The Sea of Monsters, The Titan’s Curse, The Battle of the Labyrinth, and The Last Olympian.
The first look and trailer of the series were released on September 19, 2023, during a special event hosted by Disney Plus. The trailer showcases the stunning visuals, action-packed scenes, and faithful adaptation of the beloved characters and story. Fans of the books and the films can expect to see their favorite moments come to life on screen.
The trailer also reveals that the series will feature original songs composed by Lin-Manuel Miranda, who is a fan of the books and a friend of Rick Riordan. Miranda will also make a cameo appearance as Hermes, the messenger god.
