Jawan, the blockbuster action thriller starring Shah Rukh Khan, Nayanthara and Vijay Sethupathi, is set to premiere its extended cut on Netflix on November 2nd. The film, which was released in theatres on September 7th, received critical acclaim and commercial success for its gripping story, stellar performances and social message. It also broke several box-office records, becoming the highest-grossing Indian film of 2023 and the second-highest-grossing Hindi film of all time.
The extended cut of Jawan will feature 20 minutes of additional footage that was not included in the theatrical version. According to director Atlee, the extra scenes will provide more depth and insight into the characters and their motivations. He also said that the extended cut will have a different climax that will leave the audience surprised and satisfied. Atlee expressed his gratitude to Netflix for giving him the opportunity to showcase his complete vision of the film to the fans.
Jawan follows the story of Vikram Rathore (Shah Rukh Khan), a masked vigilante who sets out to rectify the wrongs in the society by taking on Kalee Gaikwad (Vijay Sethupathi), a global arms dealer and corrupt politician. Along with his gang of six female inmates from a prison, Vikram hijacks a metro train and demands a ransom of ₹400 billion, which he plans to distribute among the poor farmers of the country. He also has a personal connection with Kalee, who is responsible for the death of his father Madhavan Naik (Sanjay Dutt), a former jailer. Vikram’s wife Narmada (Nayanthara), an NSG officer, tries to negotiate with him and stop him from going too far.
Jawan is co-written and directed by Atlee, who made his Hindi debut with this film. It is produced by Gauri Khan and Gaurav Verma under Red Chillies Entertainment. The film’s soundtrack and background score are composed by Anirudh Ravichander, with cinematography by G. K. Vishnu and editing by Ruben. The film also features Deepika Padukone, Priyamani, Sanya Malhotra, Sunil Grover and Yogi Babu in supporting roles.
