The production of Deadpool 3, the highly anticipated sequel to the hit superhero comedy franchise, has been put on hold due to the ongoing WGA and SAG strikes that have affected the film industry. However, that did not stop the stars of the movie, Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, from spending some quality time with their director, Shawn Levy.
Levy, who is best known for directing the Night at the Museum series and Stranger Things, shared a photo of himself with Reynolds and Jackman on his Instagram stories. The trio looked happy and relaxed as they enjoyed a meal together, presumably in Vancouver, where the movie was being filmed before the shutdown. Levy captioned the photo with “Three amigos waiting to shoot again”.
Reynolds and Jackman have a long history of friendship and rivalry, both on and off screen. Reynolds plays the titular character of Deadpool, a wisecracking mercenary with a healing factor and a penchant for breaking the fourth wall. Jackman plays Wolverine, a gruff mutant with adamantium claws and a troubled past. The two characters have crossed paths in X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009) and Deadpool 2 (2018), where they exchanged insults and blows.
Jackman had previously announced his retirement from playing Wolverine after Logan (2017), but he agreed to reprise his role for Deadpool 3, which will mark his first appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In an interview with The Guardian earlier this year, Jackman said he wanted to work with Reynolds again because “I get to punch the sh*t out of him every day”.
Deadpool 3 will be the first R-rated movie in the MCU, following Disney’s acquisition of Fox in 2019. The movie will be written by Wendy Molyneaux and Lizzie Molyneaux-Loeglin, who are also the writers of Bob’s Burgers. Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, who wrote the previous two Deadpool movies, will also contribute to the script.
The movie will also feature Morena Baccarin as Vanessa Carlysle, Deadpool’s love interest; Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, Deadpool’s roommate; Karan Soni as Dopinder, Deadpool’s taxi driver; Stefan Kapičić as Colossus, a metal-skinned X-Man; and Emma Corrin and Matthew Macfadyen in unknown roles.
Deadpool 3 was originally scheduled to be released on September 6, 2024, but it was later pushed back to November 8, 2024, and then moved up to May 3, 2024. It is unclear if the release date will change again due to the filming delays.
Fans of Deadpool can still enjoy his antics on social media, where Reynolds often posts humorous videos and photos related to the character. He recently wrote a Deadpool Christmas movie that he shared on Twitter. He also teased a crossover with Spider-Man by wearing a Spider-Man mask under his Deadpool mask.
