Cyberpunk 2077, the highly anticipated open-world RPG from CD PROJEKT RED, is not only getting a new expansion and an anime series, but also a live-action adaptation. According to a report by Variety, the studio has partnered with Netflix and Legendary Entertainment to produce a feature film based on the Cyberpunk universe.
The live-action project, which is currently in early development, will be directed by Denis Villeneuve, the acclaimed filmmaker behind Blade Runner 2049 and Dune. The script will be written by Michael Green, who co-wrote Blade Runner 2049 and Logan. The cast has not been announced yet, but the report claims that the film will feature some of the main characters from Cyberpunk 2077, such as V, Johnny Silverhand, Judy Alvarez, and Panam Palmer.
The film will be set in Night City, the sprawling metropolis where Cyberpunk 2077 takes place. The story will explore the themes of identity, transhumanism, and social inequality that are prevalent in the game and the original tabletop RPG by Mike Pondsmith. The film will also showcase the stunning visuals and immersive gameplay of Cyberpunk 2077, which has been praised by critics and fans alike.
Cyberpunk 2077 is one of the most successful games of all time, selling over 13 million copies in its first week of release².
