SonyLIV Launches India’s First Cli-Fi Show ‘The Jengaburu Curse’, Malayalam Actor as Main Lead

SonyLIV has launched a new original show titled ‘The Jengaburu Curse’ that is claimed to be India’s first climate fiction (cli-fi) web series. Helmed by Nila Madhab Panda, ‘The Jengaburu Curse’ will start streaming on SonyLIV from 9th August, 2023.

The series is set in Odisha’s Jengaburu, a small mining town that is being ravaged by climate change. The mining expedition in the area has led to the discovery of a strange radical that is causing a mysterious disease to spread. The disease has already killed many people, and it is feared that it could wipe out the entire town.

In the midst of this chaos, Priya (Faria Abdullah), a financial analyst, returns to Jengaburu to find her missing father. Priya soon realizes that there is a dark international conspiracy at play, and that the fate of the town, and even the world, hangs in the balance.

Interstellar, 2012 and Snowpiercer are some of the major films in the genre.

‘The Jengaburu Curse’ is a gripping thriller that explores the dangers of climate change and the greed of corporations. The series stars a talented ensemble cast, including Faria Abdullah, Nasser, Sudev Nair, Makrand Deshpande, Deepak Sampat, Indraneel Bhattacharya, Hitesh Yogesh Dave, Shri Kant, R. Badrinath, Sukumar Tudu, Manini Dey, Pavitra Sarkar, and Melanie Ruth Hill.

Malayalam actor Sudev Nair is one of the main leads in ‘The Jengaburu Curse’. He plays the role of Dr. Abhinav, a scientist who is investigating the mysterious disease that is spreading in Jengaburu.
