Thangalaan: A Historical Epic to Compete with Malaikottai Vaaliban and Fighter on Republic Day 2024

The much-awaited historical epic Thangalaan, directed by Pa. Ranjith and starring Vikram, Parvathy Thiruvothu, Malavika Mohanan and Dan Caltagirone, is all set to hit the screens on January 26, 2024. The film, which is based on the life of Thangalaan, a Tamil warrior who fought against the British colonial rule in the 18th century, has been in the making for over two years. The film is produced by K. E. Gnanavel Raja under his banner Studio Green, in association with Neelam Productions, Netflix India, API Films, Mango Mass Media and Home Screen Entertainment.

The makers of Thangalaan have announced that the teaser of the film will be released on November 1, 2021, coinciding with the Tamil Nadu Day. The teaser will give a glimpse of the grandeur and scale of the film, which has been shot extensively in India, Sri Lanka and England. The film boasts of a stellar technical crew, including music director G. V. Prakash Kumar, cinematographer Murali G., editor Selva R. K., art director T. Ramalingam, costume designer Anu Parthasarathy and stunt choreographer Dhilip Subbarayan.

Thangalaan will face a tough competition at the box office, as it will clash with two other big-budget films – Malaikottai Vaaliban and Fighter. Malaikottai Vaaliban is a period action film directed by Lijo Jose Pellissery and starring Mohanlal, Sonalee Kulkarni, Danish Sait and Katha Nandi. The film is produced by John & Mary Creative, Century Films, Maxlab Cinemas and Entertainments, Yoodlee Films and Amen Movie Monastery, and has music by Prashant Pillai. Fighter is a pan-Indian film directed by Sidharth Anand and starring Hrithik Roshan and Anil Kappor.

All three films are expected to create a huge buzz among the audience and trade circles, as they belong to different genres and cater to different segments of viewers. However, Thangalaan has an edge over the other two films, as it is a historical epic that showcases the valor and glory of a forgotten hero from Tamil history. The film also marks the first collaboration between Vikram and Pa. Ranjith.

Thangalaan is a fiery story of a bygone era that’s waiting to be told and cherished by the audience. The film promises to be a visual spectacle that will enthrall and inspire the viewers with its powerful narrative and performances. Thangalaan is not just a film, but a celebration of Tamil culture and history.
