Midhun Manuel Thomas, the acclaimed writer and director of Malayalam cinema, is on a roll with his upcoming projects. After penning the scripts for the much-awaited films Garudan and Turbo, starring Suresh Gopi and Biju Menon, and Mammootty respectively, he has also written the story for Phoenix, a horror thriller that will hit the screens on November 17th worldwide.
Phoenix marks the debut of Chandhunadh, a young actor who has been active in short films and web series. He plays the lead role of a journalist who investigates a series of mysterious deaths in a haunted house. The film also features Aju Varghese, Anoop Menon, Saiju Kurup, and Lena in pivotal roles.
The film is directed by Vishnu Bharathan, who has previously assisted Midhun Manuel Thomas in his films Aadu and Ann Maria Kalippilaanu. The director says that Phoenix is a different kind of horror film that will keep the audience on the edge of their seats. “It is not a typical jump scare movie, but a psychological thriller that explores the dark side of human nature. The film has a lot of twists and turns that will surprise the viewers,” he says.
The film is produced by Anto Joseph Film Company and Mammootty Kampany, the banner owned by Mammootty himself. The music is composed by Shaan Rahman, while the cinematography is done by Vishnu Narayanan. The editing is handled by Shameer Mohammad.
Phoenix is expected to be a treat for the fans of Midhun Manuel Thomas, who has proved his versatility as a writer with films like Ohm Shanthi Oshaana, Anjaam Pathiraa, and Argentina Fans Kaattoorkadavu. The writer says that he enjoys writing different genres and experimenting with new ideas. “I don’t want to limit myself to one type of cinema. I like to challenge myself and explore new possibilities. Phoenix is one such attempt that I hope will be appreciated by the audience,” he says.
Phoenix will release in theatres across Kerala and other states on November 17th. The film will also be available on OTT platforms after its theatrical run. For more information about the film, visit its official website1 or follow its social media pages
